ANGLING ADVICE - WATER WISE ARTICLE (PART 2)

Photobucket

Capsize and PFD’s:

The threat of capsizing your kayak (Or ski for that matter) is heightened on days of inclement weather, as conditions change so does the risk. Once in the water you could be separated from your kayak, often your only means of safety. Always wear your PFD at all times, never risk trying to attempt to put one on after capsize. Plan coping with on water emergencies (Such as capsizing and separation), this will keep you calmer and suppress a panic like state that can incapacitate certain individuals.

Stay on the upstream side of your craft; never put yourself between your kayak and the shore. The power of waves coupled with a kayaks weight could easily render you unconscious if a collision occurs. If fishing in a group be aware you may have to render assistance, access individuals skills prior to departure and only leave the safety of your kayak if it improves a recovery situation. In my opinion a PFD is the number one key safety item you should employ, in most states and territories its mandatory requirement (Check your states rules and regulations).

ANGLING ADVICE - WATER WISE ARTICLE (PART 1)

Introduction:

Avid readers of 'Sports Fishing Australia will note that 'Yak Fisher' covers various aspects in regard to fishing from kayaks. From current news and reviews, do it yourself features, advanced techniques and location articles, Yak Fisher continues to inspire and educate readers throughout Australia with its growing content. The Journalistic contributions range from salt to fresh, authored by offshore/ inshore soldiers, estuary bums, inland impoundment specialists right down to humble river rats.

As a Kayak Fishing publication, it’s in Yak Fishers best interest to portray any avenue relating to boating safety in a positive and encouraging manner Having covered areas such as 'Which Kayak for me?', 'Getting to know your kayak' and more recently 'Trip Preparation', covering all bases in an article can be a little tricky (everyone's situation differs). The last thing I want, or Yak Fisher wants is to portray a message of misunderstanding and/or bad advice.

NEW HOBIE TAUTLINER - ON THE ROAD SOON...

Photobucket

Seeing a couple of kayaks on a trailer is eyecatching enough, let alone purpose built jobs with multiple Pro Angler kayaks in tow. I know some guys have some pretty crazy business trailers with all the bells and whistles but imagine my suprise when I got an email from Steve Fields @ Hobiecat HQ this morning showing off the new Hobie Tautliner rig! (Wonder how many Pro Angler 12's that beast can hold eh?).

From what I can tell this is a brand spanking rig with the Tautliners perfect for loading/unloading on a daily basis. Used commonly in my line of work (Construction) they never, ever look this pretty, just wait till you see this on the road.

Eyes forward peeps, eyes forward...
