They have been out for a while now but many of us caught our first glimpse at the Hobie 'H Bar' on the display Pro Angler at the Daiwa Hobie Kayak Series event at St Georges Basin this past weekend. Initial reactions were mixed, especially as people were viewing the accesory as marketed directly to tournament anglers and viewing it from a closed perspective. It could be used in a competition scenario (And probably quite effectively) but its real stand out feature is the ease at which it simply folds up and declutters deck space and its wider appeal.
Here is what I found out, its designed with stand up anglers in mind, is another optional accesory for a PA, adds even more mounting options (Such as a sounder or rod holders), great dismounting stability bar and would suit fussy fly fishermen down to a tee. Its made from anodized aluminium and is rigid, light and quiet when folded or open and to top that off its moderately priced. Indeed you could make one cheaper but there is no way it would look this good or fit and function this well, especially given the build quality and design features.
