The first of many, hoping to start on a good note...
This weekend sees my first road trip for the year, all the way to the Bemm River Victorian round of the Daiwa Hobie ABT Kayak Bream Series. The event is sure to be well attended with guesses on turn estimated between low 50's to high 80's. I heard a rumour a couple of other tournaments are also on this weekend (Local clubs) so it will be busy, especially with close to 100 kayakers on the water.
The game plan for me is simple, find the fish and don't leave them (Sort out the pickers). Might sound a little common sense but Bemm holds fish everywhere, bays, deep, shallow lakes, mouths, rivers. Plugging it out along a few drifts is what will give me confidence rather than roaming all day (The game plan differs with no prefish option). Some absolute horse Bream have been caught here in the past making 45cm fork considered an average size.
Having done well here in the past I am quietly confident, especially since I fished it Australia day. Funnily enough the fish weren't in the spots I expected them to be, rather the opposite. Techniques not often used drew fish from different realms, a far cry to the areas I normally frequent. This will be my third Bemm tournament and my 7th visit back to the region, an amazing place given the stiff competition (Think Mallacoota, Marlo etc).
